The so-called Lithuanian “homosexual propaganda” ban is currently in force in the Law on the Protection of Minors from the detrimental Effest of Public Information. This is a dead legal provision, as it was last applied only in 2014. The institutions refuse to apply this discriminatory provision, but the mere existence of this article does not honor Lithuania in any sense. 

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) is currently examining the case of Macatė v. Lithuania, which deals with the censorship of the fairy-tale book called “Amber Heart”. It would be very meaningful if the Parliament changed that provision of the law before we receive the judgment by the ECtHR (expected in 2022). It is a matter of our honor to acknowledge that we were wrong without waiting for an international decision. 

Let’s critically review the Law on the Protection of Minors from the Detrimental Effect of Public Information, so that the so-called “protection” of children does not become a pretext for censorship in the media.
